The first European industry in the area was timber-cutting by convict gangs from about 1810. The rainforest produced valuable red cedar, rosewood, flooded gum and other timbers for the rapidly growing settlement of Sydney. This area is now being restored, with over 60 species of local rainforest plants replanted since 1996. This section of the walk is in various stages of revegetation.
