It was an integral part of the design of the campus buildings and was installed soon after construction. The motto on the face ‘Horas non numero nisi seranas’ means ‘I count only the hours that are serene’. This is the subject of an essay by William Hazlitt (‘On a sundial’, 1827) who read it on a sundial near Venice. ![]() ![]() |
